Herb Kroger has had a long career in the arts, but never ceases to amaze one through his depth of style. He enjoys exploring a wide variety of subject matter and different painting styles and techniques from semi-abstract to representational art.
The paintings selected for this show take your breath away as the vivid colors, lighting, brush strokes, built through layers of paint, and composition, pull you into the painting. You can almost feel the sunlight or the damp fog.
Kroger began formal training in figure drawing and painting at age twelve.
He then studied
painting and graphic design at Syracuse University School of Fine Art and Pratt Institute School of Art. In 1964 at the age of 25, he had a solo show of his paintings at the Galerie De Nus in New York City. After an unfortunate fire destroyed most of his paintings, Herb worked as a graphic designer for international clients for 40 years.
Since retiring in 2003 he has returned to his first love, painting. He has exhibited locally with the Sherman Artists, Kent and Washington Art Associations and at the Eric Sloane Museum. His landscapes, portraits and figurative works such as Herb’s figurative White Light Series can be viewed on his website: www: herbkroegerart.com.
